Where is a good place to buy a cheap board?
Where's a good place to get a cheap board? Best if you know a store name because I have trouble buying things online, but if you really know a good website, post away anyway.
I want something NON-magnetic, but hopefully portable, such as a foldable wooden board, maybe, with wooden pieces in it.
The one default picture from Wikipedia is a good one, for example. Anyone knows a good set please post.

I think your best bet is Japanese Games Shop. The prices are really cheap and I've heard good things about your service. One option to buy online would be to buy a prepaid Visa card (you can buy it at grocery stores and gas stations), and use that to pay through Paypal (which accepts credit card payments as well).

Actually that Shogi In A Box doesn't look too bad from the big picture. It's wooden and portable. Although the font isn't really my favorite, but it is a plausible and reasonable deal for that price. Shipping & Handling is a bummer.
But, why are the lances so tiny comparing to Gold/Silver/Knight? Lances are almost smaller than the pawns O_O

Here's a photo of my shogi set, which is the Shogi in a Box being sold on that website. (Though I bought it on ebay for an inflated price...)
The pieces and board aren't the best quality, but they're good enough for everyday use. I've played dozens of games with my sister and various people at an anime convention on it, and I can't even tell you how many tsume I've solved and professional games I've replayed on it. I'm wanting a new, better quality set lately, but it's DEFINITELY a fantastic first shogi set.
I was under the impression that the lance is the size of the pawn because its worth is less than the knight and generals and is only slightly higher than the pawn. In two of my sets, the pawns and lances are the same size. In one of my sets, the lance is the same size as the knight and generals.

To me, Lance worths more than Knights :\. I find a rook-supported Lance with a pawn pusher a very effective way of attacking.
