Here's a game I played against hirohiigo. I remember he said he didn't know how to play against ranging rook so maybe some analysis from other players could help him (and me) on how the game could've gone differently.

Ah yes, this game. Smile I'm quite bad against ranging rook. I'll take another look at it tonight.

By the way, in the future, can you also please post the non-text version of the PlayOK replay? Assuming that's played on PlayOK (just the URL for the game).

here a few amateur remarks:

14 - ...P4d-4e - I guess opening the bishop diagonal at this time was not a very good move. Cause then you had to reply to B7gx2b+ with your rook, moving it away from the center and from the column where your attacking silver was.
Later you moved your rook back to the center, loosing a move.

15 - G6h-7h - Instead i think a bishop drop against the rook would be something to think about. Something like this would come to mind:
15-B*7g;B*5e (R1b leaves the rook out of play, for now );16- Bx5e; Sx5e; B*7g; forking the silver and rook. I don't think another bishop drop by gote would work again.
15 -B*7g;B6d, 16-S3g;S5e 17 - P5g is possible too.

17 P1g-1f- i guess having advanced your rook pawn was better. As it will be a good way to move your silver up in the future, attacking the Knight's head.

18-P5g-5f - if a bishop drop on 3i was possible before, now it's even safer to drop it. Also, If sente's bishop was dropped before it would already be on the board, wich would have helped you in planning your attack. At this time your attack force doesn't exist at all.

21 - P2f-2e - Too late. It doesn't pose any threat.

From now on i guess it was just a question of exploring the fact that sente didn't have much of an attacking force, and so gote could take some time to prepare a more effective attack.

Please correct me if i missed something.

I'm sorry but are your comments referring to the above game? I'm not seeing what you're seeing.

Ah, thank you Ricardo. That was very helpful. It seems I panic and lose my attack whenever I'm faced with ranging rook. hirohiigo vs nutaboutit Icon_redface

The bishop variations for move 15 are a good idea. I'll definitely be sure to consider it in future games.

@Nutaboutit - i looked for the game in playok, and found this http://www.playok.com/pt/game.phtml?gid=sg&pid=341878&app=1
it's the same game.

just a correction: the first comment is not 14 - ...P4d-4e but 13 - ...P4d-4e

@Hirohiigo - i'm very glad you found it helpful!well i'm also like that, but when we're seeing a game from outside it's allways different. hirohiigo vs nutaboutit Icon_wink

@ Ricardo - Apparently I can't count.... sorry about that. I'm looking at the Japanese style notation. Thanks for the insight. I made some silly mistakes in this game but Sente's attack as you said was just too slow. I was lucky he didn't drop his bishop which is what I thought he was going to do for many moves.
